A longtime member of the police force in the township of Teaneck, New Jersey, Robert Mehnert has received more than 15 commendations for his work. These include statements of appreciation from local prosecuting attorneys for his cooperation in preparing case material and from Teaneck police and government officials for his effectiveness in detaining those suspected of committing a crime. On several occasions, Robert Mehnert received honorable service and meritorious service awards from the Teaneck Police Benevolent Association (PBA).

A member of the Honor Legion of the Police Departments of the State of New Jersey, Robert Mehnert has also received recognition for his efforts in securing medical assistance for people in need. He stands out as the recipient of a Teaneck PBA Lifesaving Award for aid he gave to an unresponsive medical patient, as well as another PBA commendation for helping bring life-saving aid to an individual who had attempted suicide.

Acknowledged in local media for these efforts, the newspaper Wayne Today also praised Robert Mehnert for his service in managing a local Little League team. In 2016, he led the team to a District 2 championship at the end of a seven-game winning streak.
