Robert Snowdale, the distinguished owner of Distribution Solutions, Inc. (DSi), headquartered in Plymouth, MA, has significantly shaped the logistics industry. He is also the founder, owner, and CEO of DSI Freightways, LLC, launched in 1991. His expertise in freight forwarding, less-than-truckload (LTL), and truckload services, coupled with his profound knowledge of freight pricing, has propelled him to the forefront of his field.
A Northeastern University graduate, he has spent many years in the transportation and logistics sector, assuming various management roles at some of the top roadway transportation firms in the country. His strategic acquisition of majority interests in the transportation brokerage firm in 1990 marked a pivotal phase in his career. Today, he steers DSi in offering innovative management services that enable manufacturers and service industries to collaborate effectively with commercial freight shippers and warehousing providers. His leadership in integrating the Transportation Spend Management (TSM) program has led to significant savings, enhancing the competitive edge of SMBs in the global logistics arena.
Born and raised in Cohasset, MA, on Turtle Island, he demonstrated an early knack for industrious work from age 13. His entry into the logistics realm began in 1974 as a Sales Representative at Springmeier Shipping Company, swiftly climbing the ranks to become the New England Regional Sales Manager. His tenure at Pacific Intermountain Express (P.I.E.), starting in 1978, further solidified his skills, especially in enhancing the company’s service offerings to include a surplus in outbound shipments.
Following the deregulation triggered by The Motor Carrier Act of 1980, he acquired a freight broker license and founded Balanced Transport Systems in 1982, which he later expanded into Balanced Transport Services (BTS). Under his guidance, BTS thrived by addressing the transportation management needs of SMBs throughout New England with a simplified pricing strategy.
In 1991, he launched DSi, further broadening his impact in the industry. Leveraging his extensive experience, he attracted a larger client base, focusing on providing strategic freight management services to business owners and executive-level employees in manufacturing companies across New England. His firm today handles a substantial portfolio in freight brokerage and logistics operations, emphasizing rate negotiations and carrier services procurement.
