Robert Yori
Design Technologist
I've spent the last decade at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, having been Senior Digital Design Manager for the New York office for the past five years. My role was twofold: One, to explore innovative uses of technology to better design, visualize, and deliver SOM's projects, and two, to elevate the Firm by applying those explorations to project work. I've managed technology-related R&D efforts, provided strategic guidance and BIM leadership to project teams, designed and maintained learning curricula and content, and taught. With my counterparts in the other SOM offices, I led the Firmwide Digital Design initiatives, including knowledge sharing, big data analysis, BIM, and computational design literacy.
I am the 2016 Chair of the AIA's Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Advisory Group, an Advisory Board Member of the NYC College of Technology's Department of Architectural Technology, and a co-leader of the RTC Design Technology Summit. I've presented at ACADIA, Autodesk University, BIMForum, and RTC, have been published in DesignIntelligence, the Journal of Building Information Modeling, and was featured in Randy Deutsch's most recent book, Data-Driven Design and Construction. I've also been an Adjunct Instructor at New York University and the New York School of Interior Design.
I spend my free time wishing I had more free time.
