I am native Oregonian, but have lived in Flagstaff for the past 12 years. Though I miss the lush, food-rich, green background of Oregon, I really do love Flagstaff with its diverse population and small town feel. Its proximity to many beautiful destinations sure doesn’t hurt either. I am beginning my 14th year at NAU, and my 28th year teaching. I have a wide and varied background in health education, community and public health. I have worked in the public school system, higher education and the non-profit arenas. I have worked as a Red Cross educator and grant writer, and as a coordinator for Northern Arizona Health Education Center housed at North Country Healthcare here in Flagstaff. My love and passion centers on teaching. I love my job, and I love working with students. There is no finer work than working with students who want to work hard and make a difference in the World. My job, as I see it, is as a trail guide; guiding students down their own paths of education and discovery. The student/teacher relationship is a symbiotic one, each teaching and informing the other. So, I always look forward to what my student's have to teach me. My professional and personal areas of interest lie both in stress management and food politics. Those who know me well know that I am passionate about the local food movement, environmental issues, and healthcare reform. I am a single father of two great kids, Jack (14), and Abby (12). When I am not grading papers or answering student e-mails or attending faculty meetings, you can be rest assured that I am doing something fun with my kids. I enjoy traveling, camping, hiking, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, Mt. biking, disc golf, snowshoeing, gardening, etc… I also love reading (my current jag is sustainable food sources, and food politics), cooking, photography, music, and many other things. Enjoy the moment!
