Rob Heaton
Ph.D. Student and Graduate Assistant in Denver, Colorado
Currently in doctoral coursework at the Joint Ph.D. Program between the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology, I hold a M.T.S. from the Anderson University School of Theology and a B.A. from Miami University (Ohio). My academic interests are diverse: historical Jesus studies, the gospels and the book of Acts, early Christianities, patristic literature from the apostolic fathers down to the 4th century CE, and perhaps most significantly, heresy and orthodoxy. My Master's thesis of 2013 critiqued the systematic theology-influenced norm of teaching heresies by listing their perceived theological inadequacies, which I suggest is merely a continuation of the practice of patristic heresiology. In the process, I attempted to demonstrate how one can arrive at a more charitable and more historically plausible understanding of the second-century Jewish Christian sect known as the Ebionites.
In my spare time, my interests include my wife, our cat, reading, the outdoors, Homestar Runner, coffee, cycling, politics, and observing modern cultural appropriations of the Bible. I support Liverpool FC, the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues, Colorado Rapids, and human rights for all. Tweet at me, why don't you?
