Robin De Croon is a postdoctoral researcher at the HCI research group of KU Leuven. He obtained a doctoral degree in Computer Science in 2017 at KU Leuven, Belgium and is currently investigating whether the combination of motivational design techniques (e.g., gamification) and context-aware recommender system techniques can increase the motivation of people to adhere to predefined intended usage, and hence, whether these ‘intelligent’ techniques can reduce drop out. A first use case was applied in the ITEA Panacea Gaming Platform project, where we researched how to motivate pain patients to adhere to telemonitoring (as part of their therapy). Currently, Robin is involved in several related international projects, such as ITEA PHE, EIT Persfo, H2020 BigDataGrapes, VLAIO Accumulate, Imec icon Discrete, etc. In his PhD, he explored, designed, developed, and evaluated a suite of information visualization tools for understanding, exploring, explaining and disclosing health information. Robin’s research interests also include user experience and visual analytics. In 2013, he obtained his M.Sc.Eng. degree at KU Leuven and immediately joined the HCI research group thereafter. In 2017, Robin also started a collaboration with the eMedia Research Lab.
