Robin Laney

I am a Professor of Computational Musicology at the Open University.

I have a background in software engineering, but much of my work is in Music Computing. I am interested in how music works and why it is so significant as a human activity. My group is exploring this through two approaches:

1) Computational Musicology - What can pattern matching and statistical approaches tell us about the content of music?

2) Collaborative Environments that allow heterogeneous groups to make music in a meaningful and intentional manner.

I am a keen amateur classical guitarist, and occasionally perform both solo and in various ensembles.
