Robin Montgomery

Suwon, South Korea, is where I hang my hat this year. I teach MYP Language A to sixth and seventh graders at Gyeonggyi Suwon International School. GSIS has many amazing people and programs. One aspect of GSIS that has been empowering is the 1-1 MacBook program. All students in grades 6-12 have MacBooks. The school has an amazing wireless infrastructure and does a fantastic job using google docs to enhance student learning.

Prior this this, I taught high school philosophy in Bangkok, Thailand. I have also taught English, worked as an IT Teacher/IT Coordinator, and Personnel Coordinator. These varied experiences have shaped me into who I am today, especially in my classroom. I understand the classroom not only from the perspective of a teacher but also from the perspective of an IT Coordinator who dabbled in PD.

In all my teaching, I enjoy challenging my students to think through ideas in new ways, especially using electronic media that inspires the students to ask and answer questions in order to create amazing finished products. Students are acutely aware of when they have produced something that makes others take notice.

I thrive on learning new things for my classroom and in my life. One transforming highlight of 2013 for me was attending the Apple Distinguished Educators Institute with educators chosen by Apple from around the Asia-Pacific region.

My BA was in English and Philosophy from Taylor University and my MEd had an emphasis in Information Technology. I love transforming education in my classroom for my own students and hope to be able to share what I know with colleagues from the world round. I have a husband who is a fantastic secondary English teacher. We have one son and one dachshund. Having lived for ten years in Bangkok, Thailand, we tend to enjoy living places that seem a bit chaotic.
