With over 25 years of experience working with people in a clinical setting I have come to understand what it takes to create a safe environment in which people can work through their problems. Most of us want to live a full life, making good decisions along way while taking joy in every moment. However, much of the time we find we are inhibited from living life that way because of things that have hurt us in past. Finding those “blocks” in ourselves is critical to the full “living of life” each of us needs and wants. One of the most important things I do for my clients is to continuously work on myself, attempting to answer big questions like ‘Why do I feel what I feel?; Why do I think what I think?; Why do I do what I do?; and Why do I say what I say?’. This creates a sensitivity that is indispensable for the therapeutic setting. This sensitivity helps to guide my application of theory in treatment. My role as a counselor-educator for the last 15 years has given me a unique perspective on the dynamics which exist between client and therapist.
