Rob Keefe

Phoenix, Arizona

For more than 27 years as a law enforcement officer, I have enjoyed great success in serving my community. I became a police officer to help people and to advocate for those persons who are not able to advocate for themselves. Over the years, my profession has been both professionally and personally rewarding. As I come to the end of my law enforcement career, I find my passion to serve others drawing me toward a second career in clinical mental health counseling.

I have had the opportunity to work in many areas of law enforcement, but my greatest interest has always been to assist those in crisis and especially persons suffering from a serious mental illness. As a society, we often forget, dismiss and stigmatize those with mental illness. For the past 14 years, I have had the unique privilege to work with the seriously mentally ill populations of Phoenix in my capacity as a Phoenix Police detective serving on the Judicial Process Detail/ Mental Health Unit. In this position, I have always strived to have a positive impact within the mental health community and to position myself as an influencer, policy maker, and agent of change within my organization.

I take pride in treating those persons coping with mental illness with the care and respect they deserve and helping them to receive the services they need. As a law enforcement instructor, I have had the opportunity to teach police officers and detectives on various law enforcement and mental health topics. I recently completed my clinical mental health counseling internship at the Phoenix Fire Department, Crisis Response Team and I am excited about my future as I transition into this next phase of my life. I would like to network with individuals in the mental health and law enforcement community. I am open to career opportunities that would allow me to utilize my unique talents and desire to serve.
