Rock Girl Road Trip
In October 2015, I joined Rock Girl, 12 teenage girls from Manenberg, the most violent township in South Africa, and 3 other American girls on the journey of a lifetime. Through 2000 km across South Africa, we became friends, shared personal stories, interviewed girls from other townships, conducted radio interviews, documented our experience in photographs under the guidance of Iliso Lobantu photographers, explored the country's amazing natural resources, tracked lions in the Kalahari, and met inspiring women scientists, chefs, judges and health care professionals.
Now that the 10-day road trip is over, we continue to share our voices, images and stories with the world. This blog is no longer mine alone. It is ours. It is a place where we can continue our road trip virtually. It is a place where you can come to hear the voices of girls from all across the world. It is my hope that this blog will live on for many years with stories of accomplishment, happiness, sadness, families, experiences and lives unfolding in the years that come.
Thank you for joining us -- the Rock Girls -- on this never-ending journey.
