Rock In Prevention is an Iowa-based organization dedicated to using arts and music to teach children the life skills necessary to prevent bullying, drug use, and underage tobacco and alcohol use. Founded in 1990 by counselor and recording artist Pat McManus, Rock In Prevention has reached over 1.5 million parents and students since then.
The organization's online curriculum, Rock Digi, utilizes the power of music to teach Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and life skills for success for grades 2-12 in an effort improve the mental health of all students, reduce bullying and drug use, and create positive a school climate in schools.
The organization's goal is to help students learn skills to be resilient so they are able to deal with the ups and downs of life. Some of the topics covered in Rock Digi are: coping with grief and loss, empathy, finding your spark, positive self-talk, self-acceptance, anger management, relationship skills, responsible decision making, and other social emotional learning skills. The organization understands that schools are prioritizing implementing strategies to meet students' social, emotional, mental health, and academic needs.
