My sister and I, being only two years apart, were inseparable from a very young age. My sister, Sarah, is older than me and I always picked up everything that she would do. Sarah always had an affinity for books. She could digest a whole book in just a day. I, on the other hand, never really cared as much to read, and I only did it to feel as cool as her. When my sister entered the 6 grade and fell into the common dystopian craze, she read The Hunger Games. I remember pretending to read the whole book too, never making it all the way through, and going that May to watch the movie in theaters. It was there, in that theater, I discovered my obsession with Archery. I begged my parents to buy me a bow for my birthday, joined a local club and fell in love with the sport. From there I took off, shooting hundreds of arrows a day, competing in state competitions, and eventually landing myself on the USA national Junior team. It became a huge part of my life. I got to travel to compete nationally and in world events. I even trained at the Olympic training center in Chula Vista California. All my success and things I got to experience through archery were because 12-year-old me wanted to impress my sister by reading a book I couldn’t care less about.
