Rodrigo Batistella
Software Engineer, Project Manager, and Consultant in Limeira, Brasil
Basically I've been working with software development all my life. I started programming when I was 12 years old, just for fun, programming in BASIC, but later it got serious! :-) So serious I attended a technical highschool course (3 years) on data processing, and later got a degree in Computer Sciences and complemented with an M.B.A. in Project Management.
In my last year of highschool I started working in a small software company that created an ERP focused on small business like drugstores, auto part stores, clothes stores, and also small industries. There I programmed in Pascal and Clipper.
That was my first contact with business processes like Procuring, Sales Front Office, Sales Backoffice, Finance and Accounting. I also acquired knowlege on Real State Firms processes, and Magazine Distribution Firms processes.
Later I was transfered to a partner company that focused on the Magazine Distribution Firms, I even was made partner to that company. There I programmed mainly in Pascal and started some projects using Delphi.
Later we split the company and my share was the 15 biggest clients, 1 big company and 14 of it´s affiliates. It was insane to take care of development, customer support, billing and documentation alone. but It gave me so much knowledge!
To finish this story that big company bankrupted andl all the affiliates went out of business. So I started working for the company I am working until now, that back then a small software company that had big clients. There I was introduced to Oracle SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle Forms and Reports. I started as a developer, participated in the project for the new version of the company's suite for foreign trade business since it's creation.
Then I started implementing it as a technical and functional consultant allocated in our customer's implementation projects. As the company was small most of the times I was by myself in a project where the other consultancy firms that were implementing the ERP (mainly Oracle e-Business Suite or SAP) had more then 10 consultants. I travelled a lot and learned a lot also. I learned the procure to pay and sale to cash processes in both Oracle EBS and SAP and in different scenarios, different industries to integrate to our software.
The company started growing and I was nominated Project Manager and managed a team of 2 to 4 other consultants in each project, 2 to 3 projects at a time. But even as s Project Manager I had to help t
