The history of pizza probably begins with the history of the use of bread by mankind. There is evidence that in ancient Greece (birthplace of the flat breads) where the plakuntos decorated and served with herbs, spices, garlic and onion in the time of Darius I (521-486 BC.) The Persian soldiers taking flatbread with cheese and dates at the top, and Virgil in the Aeneid mentions a dish similar.
Many authors claim that the pizza, as it is known today, came from the city of Naples (Italy) and appears as popular dish among the Neapolitans, at some undefined moment of XVII.century because the pizza is born a food made by the humble people of the city of Naples and the composition was not as varied as today.
Flat Breads and preparations substantiated them, like pizza, are typical of Mediterranean cuisines. Thus, there is the old "focaccia" related (very popular food among Roman soldiers) dating back to the ancient Etruscans, coca (which has sweet and savory variations) of Spanish cuisine, Greek pita bread with Turkish "calls" the African injera. Similar breads are outside the Mediterranean area including Indian Indian "paratha" and the German "flammkuchen" is. The existence of these local variants has made the name of "pizza" has been diluted in countless regional variations.
The pizza is easy to prepare food that mixes simplidad and basic ingredients. Ingestion is a social phenomenon, often the question "Had a pizza?" And a group of people understand that simply choose to cover ingredients is heard. Pizza is one of the more global fast food (along with hamburger), which has spread from Naples to the rest of Italy and then the world, perhaps because of Italian immigration to various parts, diaspora outside the borders took this plato. Since the invention, the pizza has undergone many regional changes, for example in Rome is very popular pizza taglio in the Sardenara Liguria, Sicily's sfincione etc.. And outside Italy in Mexico Mexican pizza, manakish Arabic, EE. UU. the chicago-style pizza, French pissaladière, etc..
