Rohit Mahabir
Student, tutor, and Teacher in Lambton
My name is Rohit Mahabir, I am a 21-year-old Indian male, and a third-year student who is currently studying towards my Bachelor of Education at the University of Johannesburg. I specialize in Life sciences, Physical education and Natural sciences. I currently reside in Lambton.
My teaching philosophy is underpinned by 3 pillars. Firstly, I
believe that learners learn and retain knowledge better when
they are afforded the opportunity to construct their own
understanding and knowledge, together with their peers.
Secondly, I believe that learners can learn better through the use
of drawings and color, as these transcend cultural and linguistic
barriers. Finally, I believe that learners can learn abstract
processes through learning using analogies and in a story-like
sequence, as learners are likely to remember information better
if it is relatable; piques their interest and presented in a logical
manner.
Some of my passions include biology; marine biology; tutoring; teaching; swimming; emancipatory education; multiculturalism, and computational thinking.
During my time in High School, I have: obtained a spot in top ten from grade 8-12; I played Rugby first team in grade 10; I participated in shotput in grade 9 and 10; I was elected a leader in matric; I obtained my NCS as a dux scholar and with 6 distinctions. During my time at university, I have achieved the Golden Key Award and Top Life Sciences learner 2 years in a row; I was also among the top 1% of students in 2023. I have also tutored Life Sciences and Teaching Methodology and Practicum 2A and 2B in 2024. Since 2019, I have been working as an administrative assistant at Pentaplas. Every December since 2005, I have volunteered at Epworth's Childrens Home
