Rolex Ong'ute
Teacher, Mentor, and Public Speaker in Kenya
Rolex Akinyi Ong'ute is a passionate educator, community leader, and child protection advocate from Homabay County, Kenya. With a Master’s degree from Maseno University, she has dedicated her career to empowering children, teens, and youth through education, mentorship, and community-driven initiatives.
She is a teacher of Physics and Chemistry at Obera Boys High School, where she not only imparts academic knowledge but also nurtures values of resilience, discipline, and leadership among her students. Her passion for holistic youth development led her to found Deshafo Integrated CBO in 2019, a community-based organization that creates opportunities for underprivileged children, youth, and women in areas of education, mentorship, and climate action.
Rolex is also the visionary behind the annual GRETECHI Conference—a transformative gathering held every August since 2015 in collaboration with MOSA Church, Homabay. The conference brings together over 300 children and teens each year to address issues of spirituality, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), education pathways under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and talent development.
Her impact extends beyond the classroom and CBO. Rolex serves as a media panelist on Ramogi TV and Radio, where she speaks on education, child protection, and parenting issues, and as a children’s minister at MOSA Church. She also interprets for Girwa Radio’s weekly gospel program, amplifying the message of hope to wider audiences.
A mother of three, Rolex combines professional excellence with deep compassion for the community. Her leadership has earned her recognition, including a Church and Community Certificate Award for her consistency in organizing the GRETECHI Conference. She has also been nominated for awards for her outstanding service to children and youth, a recognition that cements her role as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
Her vision is clear: "To help children, teens, and youth identify their inbuilt potential, amplify their voices, and become future leaders and change-makers in their communities."
