Ron Mathieu
Since 2008, Ron Mathieu has served as Executive Director of Aviation at the Little Rock National Airport in Arkansas. He assumed the role after spending nearly a year in an interim capacity. As Executive Director, Ron Mathieu oversees all aspects of the busy facility. About 91 percent of people who fly out of Arkansas depart from the Little Rock National Airport, which has an economic impact on the state of about $1.5 billion. Ron Mathieu focuses on maintaining the financial stability of the airport. As Executive Director, Ron Mathieu holds a commitment to the safety and integrity of Little Rock National Airport. The facility possesses its own fire and police department, ensuring the highest level of security. The airport also rents out space to numerous other businesses not involved with aviation operations. He compares the structure of the airport to that of a shopping mall, emphasizing that although he may not directly oversee every aspect of the other businesses within the airport, his management decisions directly affect airline fees and rates for the tenants. Thus, Ron Mathieu ensures that all systems run smoothly at the airport, which employs approximately 1,800 people. Moreover, the other businesses in the airport employ 4,000 additional workers. Ron Mathieu’s previous management experience equipped him with the foundation and skills required for his current role. Prior to his tenure at Little Rock National Airport, Mr. Mathieu served as Director of Aviation at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. From 2003 to 2006, he directed all aviation activity, terminal and security operations, daily operations, and personnel. In addition, Ron Mathieu managed Fort Lauderdale Airport’s $40 million budget. Utilizing his expert leadership skills, he ensured the safety of passengers in the aftermath of 9/11. Ron Mathieu received his B.A. degree in Aviation Management from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne. While his professional endeavors currently focus on the administrative side of aviation, Mr. Mathieu possesses a passion for flying. In his free time, he enjoys flying private planes. Actively involved in his profession, he maintains professional affiliations with the American Association of Airport Executives. A charitable individual, he donates to organizations such as the American Red Cross and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
