Ron Mayhew, spends much time behind the lens, patiently capturing his images. Having been a professional wood sculptor for over twenty years he has developed an eye for composition. It’s this artistic background which has helped Ron achieve recognition regionally and internationally in photo competitions. He received Best of Show in the 2010 and 2011 Photo Expo sponsored by the Photo Arts Group of Charlotte County, FL. Internationally, Ron was recognized, March 2011, in a British Worldwide Photography contest for portrait & people. He received a gold award for his image of African Eyes, a photo taken in a Tanzanian school. Additionally, he was awarded a first place in the Art League of Fort Myers Art of Photography Show in April, 2011. At an early age, Ron set up a dark room in his parent’s garage to produce black and white photos from his well used Brownie Hawkeye camera. Today, he uses Nikon equipment and Photoshop and Lightroom to edit his images. He credits National Geographic Magazine for creating a life long interest in photography and wanderlust for traveling to remote places. Now, retired and free to travel worldwide, Ron focuses on “cultural photography”, that is, street scenes and informal portraits of the people he encounters. Ron is a member of the NAPP, National Association of Photoshop Professionals and NPPA, National Press Photographers Association.
