Rory Schmier

Rory Schmier is a 56-year-old construction professional and ranch manager located in Arboles, Colorado. He was born in Durango and spent his early years living in different parts of the state with his family. He attended school through the fifth grade in Pagosa Springs before moving to Monte Vista, where he completed his high school education. These early experiences across rural Colorado helped shape his understanding of local communities and built a strong foundation for his career.

After graduating, Rory began working as a farmhand for a local family operation. Over the course of six years, he developed skills in land management, equipment handling, and seasonal agricultural work. Looking to expand his abilities, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and worked as a mason for a year. That experience introduced him to construction and gave him practical knowledge that would later become central to his work.

Rory returned to Colorado and entered the retail business by co-owning a liquor store in the Alamosa area for five years. This venture provided him with valuable experience in customer service, inventory management, and small business operations. Eventually, he shifted focus to construction and established a custom home building and remodeling company. Over the course of more than twenty years, he managed and completed high-end residential projects throughout the San Luis Valley and Durango areas, earning respect for his reliable craftsmanship.

In 2012, Rory transitioned to agricultural management, taking on the role of ranch manager for a 300-acre hay operation near Durango. His work includes managing planting, irrigation, harvesting, equipment maintenance, property management, and hay distribution throughout the region.

In his personal life, Rory enjoys motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing, hunting, and camping. He also volunteers his time to assist elderly residents with home repairs, using his construction background to give back to his community.
