I once watched John Cleese give a lecture about the process of creativity, and after about an hour of hysterical and entirely politically incorrect observations, Cleese came to the conclusion that there was simply no process. He thought that creativity was hard work, and he was right. I have dabbled in writing things…short things, but I always kept a notebook filled with ideas for short stories and even that novel I’ve always wanted to write. Other things got in the way…kids, love. Now, I find myself for the first time really applying myself to being creative, to being a writer. Telling the story challenges me. Developing characters motivates me. Learning new things excites me. I find myself coming full circle, and looking at this craft I love so much through the lens of an adult woman. Writing is hard, alone work. I made a decision about my writing that makes perfect business sense. I started my own online publishing company called Open The Door Publishing Group to publish my work, and the work of other writers who want some control over their work. I have never felt this excited, this productive or invested in my own abilities. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
