My name is Rose Ketring, also known as BluRoseMD. I never know how to answer the question, “Where are you from?” I was born down South, but have lived until two years ago in North Dakota. When not creating art, I substitute teach at a local middle and high school.

A few words about my process:

My subject matter is about the power to create new meaning from “useless” materials. Each collage contains my thoughts, poetry and emotions that whisper prayers. A candle is lit as my hands dip into color and spread across the page in meditation. Shapes gather and move as if they were dancing.

Some seem to spring fully formed from my hands in shining Beauty. Others, like puzzle pieces that have been half digested, call forth Resistance. Shapes are all wrong, color is muddy. Meaning has disintegrated into dust.

I once read a poem by Auden that touched upon darkness, of not knowing. My process follows into those dark corners to find threads of light. In the absence of meaning, creation continues where words can’t travel.
