A classically-trained musician, Rose spent two decades performing original punk rock music throughout the US and Europe with her bands Poster Children and Salaryman. Together with her partner, Rick Valentin (Assistant Professor of Arts Technology), she has released 13 albums and one DVD on various independent (Subpop, Twin/Tone, Frontier, City Slang) and major record labels (Sire / Reprise). Rick and Rose also ran an independent record label and a multimedia company before coming to Illinois State University. Their seminal podcasts, "Radiozero" are still periodically updated and available on the web.
Rose is known as a pioneer in facilitating audience participation via technology. She began blogging in 1995, created some of the first Enhanced CDs, and began podcasting in 1998. Her work has been featured in WIRED, MTV, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, CNN, FoxTV. She holds an MFA in New Media and BS degrees in Math and Computer Science from University of Illinois at Champaign. Rose teaches Music Business, Computer Programming for Artists, and Basic Skills and the Aesthetics of Digital Media at ISU. She is currently interested in computer-mediated communications, games, and gestural art.
