Rosemary Gatenby
Teacher in Kingston, Ontario, Canada
Hi, I'm Rosie Gatenby (that's me, in the middle), and I am a teacher in the Bachelor of Education program at Queen's University. I have over 10 years of volunteer and work experience with children and youth here and in the UK. I have a Bachelor of Commerce from the Smith School of Business (formerly the Queen's School of Business) and have lived in Kingston, ON for most of my life.
I believe a teacher's job is to lead, not as a commander of the classroom, but as a guide and an enabler. Every student - no matter the level of ability or need - deserves the tools and opportunities they need to meet and exceed their goals and become successful in life, no matter what that means to them. We must support students and meet their needs, doing everything in our power to open doors for students to make and meet their goals.
Students and Administrators should know that I am passionate about education and meeting the needs of individual learners, and I am driven to do whatever it takes. I have a background in outdoor education and the arts, as well as international travel. I have included a link to some of the photographs I have taken at home and on my travels, if anyone would like to take a look.
I am always looking for new movies, tv show, songs and games to make connections within our learning and between curriculum areas in order to create the most relevant and engaging learning possible. The interests of my students are a crucial part of the student centred learning plan I want to create.
I hope you enjoy the attached photos and I look forward to working with you in the future.
