Katie Hamilton
Dublin, Ireland.
This is me!
I'm Katie, a 27 year old Irish girl with a real travel bug! I have spent the last five years living in New Zealand and exploring the world.
I have created RosemaryRain to share my passions and inspire you to live a healthier, conscious and more sustainable lifestyle. I am not an expert in these areas however everyday I am learning a little more and want to share it with you.
I am a qualified physiotherapist which has brought me down the path of healthcare and has made me want to expand my practice so I can be a real health professional promoting healthy living and not just a sickness professional which I often feel I am.
Growing:
I have always been a city girl, but in 2013 I moved to Raglan, a little seaside town in New Zealand. Here, I was lucky enough to live on a large section of land which myself and my partner turned into our own lifestyle block. We had very little experience growing anything, other than a few weeks WOOFING in Europe we hadn't got our hands very mucky before. What amazed me about the whole experience was how easy it was to grow our own, how tasty the food we grew was and how fun it is.
Eating:
I am coeliac and have been gluten free since the age of seven. I made a big mistake of taking myself off the diet for a couple of years and paid severely for it. After a nasty illness and surgery I went back gluten free and all my issues have resolved. This has lead me on my food journey. In 2012 I did a stint at the famous Irish Ballymaloe cookery school on their organic farm learning to cook. Currently I am studying Plant Based Nutrition with Cornell University.
Fitness:
As well as being a physiotherapist, I am a trained advanced Pilates Instructor teaching mat, reformer, ladder barrel, chair and trap table. I am passionate about keeping fit and strong. My focus is not on how my body looks but how exercise and strength makes me feel. I keep my exercise varied and spend my spare time running, surfing, sailing and doing yoga and pilates.
Beauty and Style:
I am working hard to lead a more sustainable and healthy life and this is the area I struggle the most with. Finding products that are natural and organic is difficult to say the least. I also love shopping and I am trying to buy less but better quality that will last as well as secondhand shopping and up cycling.
