As the Chief Executive Officer of the Davis Street Community Center in San Leandro, California, Rose Padilla Johnson has been instrumental in helping the facility evolve into one of the most comprehensive, nonprofit, human service providers in the state. Having served the organization for over 25 years, she has seen it become a $18 million agency, responsible for providing nearly 15,000 people annually with a range of health, employment, housing, and child development services. In addition to the wide range of services provided by the organization Davis Street has collaborated with the Alameda County Fire Department for 26 years to give holiday baskets with food and toys to more than 1,000 families each year.
Strongly committed to healthy children and strong communities, Ms. Johnson is a member of numerous service organizations, among them Unity in the Community and the local Ministerial Association. She has served as President of the Statewide Childcare Advocacy Organization CAPPA and as chair of the Alameda County Childcare Local Planning Council. She is also a recipient of Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award, given to only 150 individuals annually, worldwide.
