Passionate about the specialized area of English for Medical Purposes (EMP), I am co-author of various titles that seek to enhance the English language skills of medical professionals. I have trained medical students and practicing clinicians, not only in the development of effective patient communication skills and to pass the USMLE, but also to help them gain confidence in English to deliver presentations, write journal articles and engage in academic study.

My first publication, Good Practice: Communication Skills in English for the Medical Practitioner was shortlisted for the 2008 British Council Award for Innovation before winning the inaugural BESIG-David Riley Award for Innovation in ESP in the same year.

Combining the above-mentioned skills, I now co-run specialized EMP teacher training courses together with Virginia Allum and Marie McCullagh and I am tutor for a module in ESP materials development and author of How to Write ESP Materials.

Twice President of TESOL France and editor of the Teaching Times, I am currently a member of the IATEFL Conference Committee. I have myself presented at several international conferences, including the COMET (Communication, Medicine and Ethics) Conference.

While not busy writing, I can be found pounding the streets, camera in hand, shooting scenes against the backdrop of the French capital; a modern-day Cartier-Bresson à l'anglaise!
