Rafael Arroyo
Los Angeles, California, United States
Rafael Arroyo is a sports performance catalyst. He is currently advising, training, and coaching Major League Baseball (MLB), Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), Liga Mexicana Del Pacifico (LMP), collegiate, high school, and amateur baseball players.
A former professional baseball player, Rafael was drafted out of California State University, Los Angeles in the 26th round of the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the New York Mets. Rafael spent 6 seasons in the Mets minor league system as a catcher ranging from Rookie level to Triple-A level. He played for the Kingsport Mets (Appalachian League, Rookie), Brooklyn Cyclones (New York-Penn League, Short Season-A), Hagerstown Suns (South Atlantic League, Low-A), St. Lucie Mets (Florida State League, High-A), Binghamton Mets (Eastern League, AA), and Buffalo Bisons (International League, AAA).
In 2010, Rafael was released by the Mets, but was soon offered a position in the Major Leagues as a bullpen catcher. He gladly accepted the position. His duties as a bullpen catcher were to prepare and warm-up starting/relief pitchers before and during games, review scouting reports and present any information necessary to the coaching and pitching staff, and when necessary, throw batting practice to the starting pitchers and position players. Rafael traveled with the ball club and was a part of the uniformed team all season. Unfortunately, during the off-season, front office, managerial, and coaching staff changes were made and Rafael would not return for the 2011 season.
