Royann Schmidgall
During her 14 years as the administrator of a medical practice specializing in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, Royann Schmidgall steadily increased the presence and profitability of the practice. Parting ways with the company in late 2011, Royann Schmidgall held executive responsibility over a $10 million budget and the operational management of the practice, which boasts 11 care providers and 40 employees, and provided strategic guidance to grow the business.
When Ms. Schmidgall first joined the practice, it consisted of two care providers working in 5,000 square feet of operational space. Under her aegis, the practice now employs 10 care providers working in 16,000 square feet. Throughout her tenure with the practice, Royann Schmidgall executed several significant additions. In 2004, she provided managerial oversight during a merger period. In this regard, she adroitly combined the two companies by providing day-to-day leadership for existing employees of her firm, assimilated the staff from the acquired practice, and then instituted a common set of policy standards and medical practice protocols. Under her guidance, the practice added an electronic medical record system to improve patient care and reduce administration costs. A skilled health care administrator, Ms. Schmidgall's decision-making skills and process improvements netted a 3.75:1 ratio of full-time employees to care providers, a ratio that is much less than national averages.
During the expansion, Ms. Schmidgall researched, planned, and implemented the addition of a diagnostic service line to the practice, including a CT scanner, pulmonary function machines, and chest X-ray machines, which successfully added an additional 20% profit to the practice operations. She successfully incorporated clinical research into the practice in 2009, winning multiple research studies over the next two years.
Ready for her next professional challenge, Royann Schmidgall possesses 25 years of health care administration experience, with a significant majority of roles holding budgetary or employee management responsibilities. Ms. Schmidgall obtained a Master's degree from Nebraska's Bellevue University in Healthcare Leadership to complement her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on health care management from North Dakota State University.
