Roy MacDowell served as president of The MacDowell Company, which has worked with individuals, corporations, and organizations throughout New England to provide landscape design and construction services. Since 2009, he has directed strategic planning for Baystone Development, an award-winning real estate development and management company, also headquartered in Weston. Roy MacDowell is additionally a past director of Sterling Bank in Waltham.

Roy MacDowell has made contributions to a number of charitable organizations in his community. Roy attended Babson College, and he is among the Wellesley, Massachusetts school’s past Trustees. In addition, he is a past Trustee on the board of Boston Children’s Hospital, and a past President of the Board of Trustees of The Rivers School, a Weston, Massachusetts-based college preparatory school for students in middle and high school. Roy MacDowell also has served on the boards of the Anti-Defamation League of New England, the Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation, and the Waltham Boys & Girls Club.

In 2002, he campaigned to save the financially struggling Deaconess-Waltham Hospital, where he had been born. He paid $8.5 million to purchase the hospital’s real estate interests. That bid kept the hospital in service to the community, and Mr. MacDowell additionally invested in renovations to the facility before it was sold to Boston Children’s Hospital in 2004.
