Born in the suburbs right outside of New York City, I grew up following what I thought people were supposed to do throughout life: finished college, lived with my then boyfriend, attended a top-notch graduate school, while working in a field that was considered respectable and was something everyone’s parents would want to brag to their friends about.
Difference was that it wasn’t enough for me. My Mom used to say I was her kid with nine lives because I have a strong desire to change and recreate my life…and sometimes it gets my into some pretty precarious situations. But my cat-like curiosity hasn’t killed me yet.
I’ve decided to embrace that spending 30 years going to schools to learn about random subjects to use said knowledge for 30 years in a career to retire and hopefully spend a final 30 years wondering what it was all for isn’t what I want for my life.
With 2014 being my year to turn 30 years old, I’ve decided to get to know myself better than any other subject, to find a job that works with the way I want to lead my life, and not wait until I’m 60 to act like I’m retired.
Hence, I’m changing the Rule of 30!
