At six feet tall and 200 pounds, I never hesitated to be aggressively imposing to win at sports. Even at eight I relied on a powerful forehand in tennis. Eventually, I learned to control a match with technical control and stamina; taking apart opponents by observing their style, and patiently waiting for an opening.

As a field engineer for Schlumberger, I seized initiative rather than wait for an opportunity, becoming the first among my peers to get promoted. But when mentoring trainees I applied my tennis lesson. I observed their individual strengths and weaknesses, tailoring individual training plans. I implemented an open communication and feedback system. All of my trainees were promoted to field engineers well before the planned date. I learned to reap dividends by being composed in face of adversity.

I have the ability to access my strengths, but I am not afraid to try other approaches. I am a flexible leader who can access situations and strategize accordingly.
