Music is a passion of mine that excites me to no end. I love listening to my favorite songs over and over again and enjoy playing them myself on my guitar. To me, music isn’t just vibrations coming out of a speaker, but rather a universal language that conveys the emotions of the author and the performer. These emotions can be ones of sadness, love, hate, anger, peace. Whatever the creator of the music wants can be conveyed through their music, giving endless possibilities to what can be conveyed though music. And while the emotions of the writer can be conveyed though their music, I also believe that the personality and emotions of the listener can be conveyed in the music that they enjoy listening to. People look for music that communicates the same emotions, feelings or ideas that they believe in and feel, and their taste in music can give a glimpse of what they enjoy or what they feel.
So, what does my musical taste say about me? My favorite band of all time is Led Zeppelin, a group who pioneered rock music in the seventies, spawning eight albums over a twelve year career. Their music embodied many musical styles, from English folk, to one of the first heavy metal sounds, to the hazy and distorted psychedelic sound of San Francisco. They pioneered new sounds using distortion and guitar effects, while staying true to their roots in blues and folk for their instrumental sound, and European mythology for their lyrics. Similarly, I enjoy history and what I consider the classics of music but also want to push forward and create new sounds.
