RP Patnaik
R. P. Patnaik is a celebrated music director and playback singer of Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada films – hailing from Hyderabad. He has written and scored music for films such as Jayam, Santosham, and Nijam. Kannada movies in which he has composed music include Excuse me, Akash, Preethi Yeke Bhoomi Mele Ide, and Savi Savi Nenapu. He has also directed a number of feature films including Andamaina Manasulo, Amy and Broker.
He was born in 1970 at Parthipuram, Andhra Pradesh. He is a true Hyderabadi, and is also known as Ravi to family and friends. Before joining the film industry, he studied space physics at Andhra University.
R. P. Patnaik received the prestigious Filmfare Award for three consecutive years, for the films NuvvuNenu, Santhosham and Excuse Me. His first live show for the public was on July 20, 2002. Since then, he has performed across India and around the world, including the US, the UK, Dubai, Kuwait, and Singapore.
He has a huge contribution to our music industry – he introduced about 25 singers to the film industry – Kausalya, Mallikarjun, Ravivarma, Karthik , and Ranjit, to name a few . His lyrics for the song "Thiya theeyani Kalalanu" from the film Sreeram, sung by Bombay Jayashree, became a rage in South India, and his music album for Jayam sold about 2.5 million copies in Andhra Pradesh alone. His international music album Chakra, which had very unusual time signatures, was nominated for the Grammy. He also recorded a symphony in Prague, Czech Republic with 90 musicians for the background score of his Hollywood film Amy.
R. P. Patnaik first acted in the acclaimed Telugu film Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi effortlessly portraying a blind singer. His most recent work as film director is the Telugu film Broker, in which he also plays the lead actor. Currently, he is working on a number of projects, including his next feature film, which is scheduled to be shot in Brazil in the summer of 2012.
