My core basic assumption about education is that humans are innate learning machines. For our entire recorded history, our species has been striving to understand and manipulate the many objects and ideas around us. It is part of our basic instinct to learn. Thus, there is a strong internal pleasure that comes from learning. I believe that my single most important goal as an educator is to fuel this intrinsic motivation for learning in my classroom, so that students can actively seek to learn in and out of the classroom.
In my work, I aim to provide real-world context and social dynamics to help the students develop a more connected understanding. This is complimented with the use of widely available multimedia and web technologies, which the students are highly accustomed to.
