My personal journey with long term care started in 1994, when my father became ill and required custodial care. Unfortunately, my dad didn’t have long term care insurance, and the emotional and financial toll on our family was immense. We were determined not to let history repeat itself, so we secured long term care insurance for my mother right away.
Almost 16 years later, my mother had a stroke and required custodial and cognitive care. Her long term care policy helped pay for excellent home care, assisted living, and finally, a wonderful cognitive impairment facility. Her last months were not only more dignified, but she was able to protect her assets and pass them on to her children and grandchildren as she wished. That’s when I knew I had to help other families secure the same kind of peace of mind.
No one likes to think about end of life decisions. Yet every year, tens of thousands of Baby Boomers are reaching an age where it’s critical to start thinking about how we will keep from burdening our families with difficult decisions, how we will preserve the assets we wish to pass on to our loved ones, and what kind of legacy we will leave. I’ve seen first hand how a long term care insurance policy is part of this process, and that’s why I’ve dedicated myself to helping individuals, families, and couples choose the best policies for their needs.
Bottom line: Outliving our money is a common fear among Baby Boomers, and for good reasons. No one knows the future, but a long term care insurance policy is one of the best ways to protect our families and our legacies from the unforeseen costs of aging.
