Rufio Rouge

Rufio Rouge is an Asian-American musician and DJ.

A pianist since age 3, he has studied at Juilliard, and both the Manhattan School of Music and the New School on full scholarships. Certified at age 11 by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with Distinction for Level 8 Piano and Music Theory, he simultaneously developed an interest in producing rock/hip-hop music which led to the success of his band Late By 14 reaching no.1 on MP3.com’s rock chart for multiple weeks.

At age 17, he became one of 22 participants selected out of 500 for the annual Eastman School of Music International Piano Competition in addition to winning the C.W. Post College Piano Competition for a second time in a row and winning the annual C.W. Post College Concerto Competition. During this time, while studying philosophy and economics at Harvard University, he began drumming and playing guitar for local rock bands and rappers.

Later transitioning to the University of Chicago, he performed regularly for the University of Chicago Piano and Chamber groups while becoming immersed in the university punk culture through UCHC. During this time, he also regularly performed piano and drums for various Chicago rock bands.

By the time he had graduated, he had created his own record label by merging with a Universal Music Group jazz label, and established himself as an up and coming DJ through various performances in Chicago, New York, London, Paris, and Shanghai. Currently based in the US and Europe, he continues to expand his interest in all genres through his performances, projects, and music.
