Dr. Rufus Jones, Jr.
Florida
I am an orchestral conductor, music educator, and biographer.
I was a college professor for 10 years. My research for the last 10 years has focused on classical musicians of African Descent. I am a published author. My current project is a biography of Dean Dixon (1915-1976). Dixon was an African American conductor who had an outstanding career in Europe from 1951-1976. His life was devoted to performance and education. I so connect with Dixon's life as I too hope to devote the rest of my career to performance and music education. My book, Negro at Home, Maestro Abroad is expected to be out May 2014.
Email me at [email protected] if you'd like to know more about my work. If you would like to see me conduct, simply go to youtube and type: "Dr. Rufus Jones, Jr. conducting Mendelssohn."
