Ru-Lee Story

Hello, my name is Ru-Lee Story, and I’ll be your blogger today.

I’m a twenty-two-year-old playwright, author, dramaturg and theatre historian who’s just heading into my senior year of college. I’ll be graduating in spring of 2015 with a degree in theatrical studies. My tentative plan after that is to move to Chicago, try to get work somewhere in the theatre world, write plays and try to get them read/produced in my spare time, and eventually go back to school to get an MFA in playwriting.

On a more immediate note, I identify as asexual and agender. Basically all this means is that I have no sexual interest in anyone of any gender, and that I don’t identify strongly as any gender myself. This doesn’t mean that I’m not interested in romance at all–I am romantically attracted to all genders, and in fact I am currently happily in a long-distance relationship with one very special lady. I’ll likely be blogging about asexuality and agender-ness in more detail, as well as LGBT issues in general, so keep an eye out for that, but in the meantime know that I do prefer to be referred to with the pronouns they/them/theirs rather than anything gender specific.

I also suffer from severe endometriosis and chronic pain. I appear to have a highly treatment resistant case, and I’ve spent the last two years cycling through a host of hormone treatments, pain medications, and surgeries to try to get the symptoms under control. So far nothing has really had a lasting effect. This has made me much more aware of and engaged in disability issues, so that’s another thing I’ll probably be blogging about.
