Robert Underwood

Nazrawi, Husband, and Theologian in Houston, TX

Robert Underwood is an Urban Theologian, teacher, and consultant committed to equipping the Church and engaging real life through a Christ-centered lens.

He is also a husband and father, and his theology is not only shaped in study, but in the rhythms of family, responsibility, and everyday discipleship.

His work operates at the intersection of urban theology, biblical theology, and integrative theology—seeking to show how the gospel speaks into culture, suffering, leadership, and ordinary life without losing its grounding in Scripture.

Through Hood Theology Press, teaching, writing, and consulting, Robert focuses on:

  • Evangelizing the lost with clarity and conviction
  • Engaging culture without compromise or confusion
  • Encouraging believers in their walk with Christ
  • Edifying the Church through sound biblical teaching
  • Equipping leaders, churches, and communities for real-world ministry
  • Exhorting people toward faithful obedience to Jesus

His teaching is shaped by Christ-centered hermeneutics, reading all of Scripture through Christ as the center, and missional hermeneutics, interpreting the Bible for faithful engagement in today’s world.

A unique part of his work includes theological thanatology—helping individuals, families, and faith communities think biblically and pastorally about death, grief, dying, and eternal hope in Christ.

Above all, Robert’s life and work are anchored in his calling as a husband and father, seeking to live out the same gospel he teaches within his own home.

His passion is simple:
to strengthen the Church, serve people in real-life complexity, and help others see that the gospel is not just information—it is formation, transformation, and life.
