I'm not one of life’s wallflowers – are any Scots? The first thing people notice about me is ‘me’, because I'm a unique character and a natural performer who’s happy to speak up for what I believe (the fact I'm 6’ 5” tall helps too) but my true passion is to help solve the complex business problems faced by entrepreneurs.

My confidence has come after a successful career and journey through life which has created at my core a deep belief in trusting my personal belief system - to do the right thing. Learning that means I have no fear and no doubt, so I follow my instincts, doing things and taking risks that many wouldn't: I've sold disk drives designed and built in Scotland to companies in Tokyo (the equivalent of coals to Newcastle). I've financed and produced a movie www.makingugly.com (having never been behind a film camera in my life). I've even stood on a plinth in Trafalgar Square, dressed in a kilt, waving a Scottish flag, as part of Anthony Gormley’s living installation (if that doesn't teach you to overcome your fear and embarrassment, nothing will!). I've helped to start companies in a number of sectors which have gone on to achieve international success.

I am naturally inquisitive, asking probing questions, spotting the opportunities, then quickly finding the best person for the job – bringing people together in a way that benefits everyone. And that’s all I want from life: to take something and help in making it better.

Today I split my time between Exolta, a leading advisory business and dedicating my time to coaching and supporting young entrepreneurs. I'm regularly to be found speaking at events where I share my excitment for entrepreneurship and my experience on how to grow businesses.
