I have the wonderful privilege of influencing the lives of students in the world of drafting. My name is Russell White and I am the Drafting & CAD Technology Instructor at Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Shelbyville (TCATS). I instruct students in four major diplomas: Architectural Drafting, Civil Drafting, Mechanical Drafting, and Computer-Aided Illustration. Each diploma is 4 trimesters in length (1 year and 4 months). Students have access to the latest edition of some of the world's most powerful drafting software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3d, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk 3ds Max Design, SolidWorks, Carlson Civil/Survey, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Flash).

Some may think that drafting is a bore, but as the industry evolves I make it evident to my students that drafting is so much more than just drawing lines and arcs on paper. It is an art of graphic manipulation and presentation. Today's drafting technician is a graphic creator with knowledge in numerous graphic softwares and file formats. The position also mandates the vision to see concepts as a 3d system in its environment and how its motion, simulation, and time will affect all aspects of that environment.

This portfolio is not about me (no pun intended). It about my students. I will showcase each student as an individual project and how they grow and develop into the next future drafting technician of tomorrow.
