Prior to entering law school I worked for several organizations that shared a common mission: to protect the rights of marginalized groups through social reform, advocacy and justice. I learned a great deal about the social and legal issues facing communities affected by abject poverty. Above all, I developed the ability to build a rapport with people from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. During my time in Peace Corps, I worked with local women in West Africa on economic and pressing health issues that laid a foundation for further sustainability. Taking time to understand the intricacies and nuances of Senegalese culture made the trainings in women's health and environmental awareness bridge an inevitable gap that existed between our two cultures. Through my work with low-income New Yorkers, I provided relief in communities impacted by the foreclosure crisis in Brooklyn and Queens, assisting leaders in holding meetings, providing research, analysis, and referrals to sister organizations for immediate legal assistance.
