Ruth S. Fernandes is a graduate of York University with an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Arts with particular focus in Theatre and Film. During her third year of study she was selected to participate in a one year exchange program with York University’s International Exchange where she studied at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle, England. Since returning to Canada her efforts have been directed at the arts community in Toronto. Since 2005 Fernandes has led the Toronto International Portuguese Film Festival as Executive and Artistic Director. This festival endeavors to promote Luso-Descendant language, talent and culture through the art of cinema. Ruth has also participated in several collective exhibits in Toronto including Contact in 2009. In 2011 Fernandes exhibited her first solos exhibits.
