Ryan Young

Software Engineer in Michigan

Attend my event

Ryan Young is a Software Engineer with In-House Realty who spent 2016 moonlighting as IHR’s AWS DevOps guy. With 14 years on the job in IT, he cut his teeth as a summer intern imaging Windows XP PCs via Microsoft RIS and deploying hardware to credit union branches. He spent a year working in a server room and learned the value of good thermal underwear. He worked a help desk for a while and – never satisfied – found ways to improve the help desk software through scripts and hacks. This earned him a spot on the dev team working with UniData and UniBasic on HP-UX, where he would curse out the multivalue/subvalue columns almost daily.

He hung around the credit union industry for a decade. There was more Unix (AIX) and more languages (C#, Java.) Windows got better, JavaScript became a server language, and the web went mobile. When the dust settled Ryan ended up with the QL FOC working on .NET and growing his skills. As cloud computing matured he leaned on his engineering passion and previous server experience to help build and admin the IHR AWS environment. With an organization committed to technology behind him he’s able to get comfortable with the tools that used to make him uncomfortable and solve complex problems with engineering.
