I'm interested in cultural politics of India and U.A.E.

My research focuses on attempts by subordinated groups to gain acceptance in the mainstream through popular culture. Most recently I've written about the Arab in American popular culture and the deconstruction of the identity created therein. In this, I look at popular culture as a site for public pedagogy.

I want to expand my research to study the Emirati identity and the pseudo-Emirati identity, rhetoric surrounding citizenship, and religious violence in postcolonial India.
