For as long as I can remember, I have loved entertaining people. It was because of this that I began competing in speech and drama in middle school. I competed well and I had found my calling. Fast forward 16 years and here I am today, the head coach of one of the most successful speech teams, not only in Kentucky, but in the nation.

For my success as a speech coach, I had to make several sacrifices. After high school, I decided to enroll in WKU to compete in their nationally recognized speech program. I allowed my love of the activity invade every ounce of my time, including the time I should have spent studying. I decided to leave WKU and return home to Morehead after four semesters. I began coaching speech as an assistant at Rowan County Senior High, and again, found myself taking team activities much more seriously than my school work. I eventually dropped out of college and worked at several retail establishments in Morehead, while continuing to coach speech. I would take classes here and there with the intention of easing my way back to school, but to no avail.

As fate would have it, I married one of my best friends from high school (we actually dated a couple of times) and we now have two children. Nothing could have spurred my motivation more to return to school and finish my degree. I began taking classes again last semester and I will be officially finished in the spring.

While I do still coach speech (I'm the head coach of the team, now) with my new found motivation (and a wife who keeps my procrastination in check) I will have my degree in University Studies, which I will then use to enter the MAT to teach English, which also certifies me to teach speech, drama, and debate...my passion.
