HVAC Technician in San Diego, California
Hello, I’m Ryan. I’m a former HVAC Technician and a current Director of Progressive Heating & Air LLC which is an AC repair and HVAC company based on San Diego. I have been in the HVAC industry for over 25 years now. At Progressive Heating & Air we specialize in air conditioning repair services and cover all HVAC installations and servicing throughout the greater San Diego area.
HVAC Technician Work: HVAC technicians (heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning technicians) are responsible for intalling, servicing, and repairing heating and air-conditioning systems in home and commercial environments. Heating equipment technicians specialize in the installation and maintenance of heat, oil, gas, electric, solid-fuels, and other heating systems. Air conditioning mechanics focus on the installation and servicing of air conditioning systems. After putting the basic equipment in place, HVAC technicians also install air ducts, vents, and pumps, as well as fuel and/or water supply lines. Sometimes the technician will install the electrical systems and control panels needed.
HVAC Technician Skills: An HVAC technician must have the ability to read, understand, and follow detailed instructions in an exact manner. Knowledge of plumbing and electricity is very helpful. Physical fitness is a requirement as the work sometimes involves the lifting of heavy equipment. In addition, good interpersonal skills are important as the HVAC technician may have frequent customer contact.
HVAC Training Courses: HVAC training provides a basic background inusing the required tools, theory and design of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems, how to read blueprints, and basic safety practices.
Specialized classes may focus on topics such as designing and implementing efficient air handling systems, implementing energy efficient systems, compressor technology, retrofitting HVAC systems, natural gas systems, and diagnostics.
HVAC Technician Employment: HVAC employment is expected to increase faster than the average, especially for those with formal training. Much of this increase in demand will be driven for an increased need for energy conservation. Employment is found with commercial construction firms or with home builders. Other jobs are found in stand-alone service businesses who specialize in maintenance and repair, as well as supplying items such as home heating oil or natural gas.
