Ryan Chan

Business analyst, environmental activist, and thoroughly nontraditional science geek interested in getting stuff done. I'm passionate about solving difficult, global problems through the combination of conscientious design, innovative engineering, and big picture thinking.

Hacker, hustler, designer, whatever. If it needs to get done, I'll get it done. i.e.:

  • My first start up was looking for an adhesive no one had ever made and many thought was undoable. I made it. It's now patented.
  • My second start up needed to know why people give money. There was no research available. I raised $300 for local nonprofits in 5 days testing approaches. My findings are used at a nonprofit that raises $20M a year.
  • Over 12 weeks, I taught mysef ruby and rails, created a prototype, and raised $50k seed round for a startup.
  • I wanted Brown to be the first carbon-neutral college in the US. I lobbied the administration, securing $300k in grants to do carbon offsets in the Providence community, a first for the University.
  • I wanted to study green energy solutions at Brown, but no one had the resources to do so. I lobbied the University and help set in motion a new institute for energy sciences, which has applied for federal grants in excess of $150M.

I will get it done.
