Ryan Mathews

I’m Ryan Mathews, RDHAP, a Licensed Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice. I’ve been practicing dental hygiene in California for over 16 years, and for the past 8 years, I’ve also worked as an RDHAP, bringing professional oral health care directly into homes and community settings.

In addition to my mobile work, I’ve spent years working alongside dentists in traditional practices, giving me a well-rounded perspective on both in-office and alternative care. I earned my RDHAP license through the University of the Pacific’s nationally recognized program, designed to expand access to preventive dental services in underserved communities.

What is an RDHAP?

An RDHAP (Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice) is a specially licensed hygienist in California who can provide preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene care without direct supervision in many settings.

Trained to serve children, seniors, people with disabilities, and underserved communities.

Able to provide care in homes, nursing facilities, assisted living centers, schools, and rural areas.

Focused on prevention, education, cleanings, and referrals when advanced treatment is needed.
